Jeffersonville High School takes great pride in its School-to-Career Programs. All of the programs offered teach students marketable skills through practical hands-on demonstration.
Seven years ago, the Building Trades Program was recognized by the Jeffersonville City Council for the fine construction of a Picnic Pavilion at the Options Alternative School. The students also built a 2,200 sq. ft. ranch-style home. Six years ago they built another ranch-style home in Charlestown, Indiana and were featured on "Channel 11" news for being one of only a few programs of its' kind in the area and five years ago the students custom built a showcase home in Jeffersonville. And four years ago they built an even larger home in Utica. Two years ago, under the direction of Mike Brown, BT built a comfortable ranch in Jeffersonville's newest neighborhood of River Woods / River Forest. Last year with the aid of a new assistant, Mike Brown and Anthony Young led the program in building a house for Mr. Hazuga in the Fox Run neighborhood of Utica. This year the crew is building a walk-out basement in one of the areas newest subdivisions.
Students participate in all phases of new home construction including framing, roofing, drywall, interior trim work, and painting. On inclement-weather days, students have indoor projects in the Building Trades Lab.
By working in the Lab and on the job site, students learn the safe and proper use of power and hand tools used in new home construction.
